Sarah's...An Oasis for Women
Healing and Dignity in a Safe Community
Sarah’s is a home and sanctuary where immigrant women surviving violence and displacement find safety, dignity, and community. More than shelter, it is a place of healing and love, honoring culture where women are welcomed and given the stability and support to build toward the lives they deserve.
A home for women
A Legacy of Unconditional Welcome
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet opened our doors in 1996 after transforming a former convent into a place of profound healing and stability.
Today, this space continues a nearly thirty-year tradition of offering long-term housing and dedicated care to those who need it most.

373 Years of Making a Difference in the Lives of Women
This story is part of an ongoing series about the history of Sarah’s. In 1996, Sarah’s was founded when the Sisters of St. Joseph converted their former convent into a home for women needing a safe place to heal from trauma.
Mary's Might
This story is the first in a series about current and former volunteers at Sarah’s who have made a significant impact on our community. Sarah’s volunteers play a vital role in helping residents reclaim their lives and making the house feel like a home. We are inspired by their contributions to Sarah’s, and we are endlessly grateful for their support in carrying out our mission.
May Peacemaking Prevail on Earth Today!
In the front yard of Sarah’s, hidden behind the bushes, stands a simple metal post that has begun to tarnish after several years of Minnesota weather. While it doesn’t look like much at first, a closer inspection reveals phrases inscribed on its sides in different languages.
